Ratio Fidei :: 2012-2013

Ratio is reason, but also reasoning, thinking, meaning. The ratio of something is what makes it make sense, what makes it coherent (and thus rational). To name our course “the reasoning of faith,” then, is to say not only that the faith is rational — that it is something that a reasonable, thinking adult can give assent to — but also that this rationality, this coherence, is something internal to faith. Faith, in other words, has its own way of thinking, its own ratio, that cannot be adequately explained from the outside. This course seeks to bring us inside.

Ratio Fidei is an eighteen-week course open to all at the Church of the Advent, be they longtime church members, newcomers, new Christians, or those coming from other Christian traditions who would like to deepen their knowledge of catholic Christianity as lived in this parish. This course is required for any adult seeking the sacrament of confirmation.

The two main parts of the course, focused on doctrine and practice, are complementary to one another.
